LILY Letter 46: Powerful Women

February 22, 2022

What does it mean to be a powerful woman? Does it mean to have good fame and fortune? Does it mean to do everything for everyone with no thought of ourselves? Does it mean to do what it takes to look good in the eyes of others? Does it mean being attached to a powerful man?

Logically, we know these things are not they way for us to be truly powerful but in action, we may unknowingly be attaching to what we think is powerful that is actually not. In fact, these things can potentially deplete our power or even lead us to give our power away.

Ironically, power comes by recognizing our human limitations and choosing to care for our own mental health and physical needs. Rather than trying to give water from an empty well, or energy from a depleted source, we can choose to replenish and rejuvenate our power. When we feel good, we show up better for everyone else. And we don't actually have to DO anything in particular to be powerful. We can simply BE in our power and offer the world a powerful force of nurturing goodness.

Sometimes the best thing you can do to be a force for good in this world is to rest and recover your strength whenever that is needed. This will help you show up for everyone you love and care about—including your children, your friends, your family, and if you're married, your spouse. Our men need us to support their strong requests for mental health nourishment and listen with open hearts to their human concerns without becoming fearful and inadvertently shaming them. In fact, don't we all need this? If we want to be able to show up in this capacity for those we love, the foundation for being able to do this is by taking good care of ourselves.
